I am a hair dye fanatic, and I have tried many of the oVertone colors. This article sums up my oVertone before and after experiences so far.

oVertone Semi-Permanent Coloring Conditioner: Things You Need To Know

oVertone Before And After
oVertone Before And After

First of all, oVertone is a semi-permanent conditioner. The product is rich in pigments, which sit on your hair and change its color temporarily. These shades fade away with every wash over the weeks.

Hence, do not expect a whole hair transformation with any oVertone color.

Secondly, the oVertone colors do not work smoothly on every hair tone. For example, blondes get the most benefit from this conditioner. Though the colors are not pronounced on brown shades, you can definitely spot an overall tint.

Finally, you must follow proper instructions if you want the oVertone to work on your hair. Such as,

  • Shampoo and condition your hair beforehand.
  • Dry and detangle the strands.
  • Apply the oVertone colors thoroughly and evenly on each strand. Otherwise, you end up with patchy hair shades.
  • Wait for 15 minutes before you rinse off the colors with warm water.

Now that the basics are clear let’s jump into the before and after results.

Before And After oVertone Ginger

Before And After oVertone Ginger

oVertone Ginger allows everyone to enjoy mild red hair. Well, the natural ginger hair is between classic red and strawberry blonde tones.

You can actually get that strong, vibrant ginger shade upon applying the oVertone Ginger on blonde hair. Of course, the gingery hue will not be as pronounced in the brown hair tones.

However, customers have mixed reviews on the oVertone ginger. The most common complaint is about the color.

Though oVertone has promised a ginger tint, the hair does not actually turn out to be that way. Instead of having a combination of orange, red, brown, and auburn red, the hair looks more orangish.

Of course, the pigments work differently on each hair tone. Therefore, a strand test is recommended.

oVertone Silver Before And After

oVertone Silver Before And After
oVertone Silver Before And After

The oVertone brand has launched 3 different shades of silver. Such as,

  • Pastel silver
  • Vibrant silver &
  • Extreme silver

Though each of these silvers promises a gray hue on any hair shade, it is not entirely true. For example, the vibrant silver only works on light hair above level 9.

The oVertone Vibrant Silver may backfire on dark or medium blondes too. Instead of getting a full silver, they will end up having an ash hue all over the strands.

The patches may turn chlorine green if your hair has a yellowish or orangish tone. Finally, on brown hair, you will get a dark brown shade with a few gray strips.

oVertone Pastel Silver has fewer pigments than Vibrant Silver. Hence, the coloring conditioner only works on light blondes.

On the other hand, the oVertone Extreme Silver is rich in pigments. It definitely gives the blonde hair a silvery black shade. But this temporary dye makes the brown hair look more black with a hint of gray.

oVertone Pastel Silver Before And After

The Pastel Silver oVertone lies in between the Vibrant Silver and Extreme Silver. You can enjoy the full gray shade with this condition only if your hair tone is above 9. It means the Pastel Silver oVertone does not work on dark hair, not even on dark blondes.

While the light blondes pick up the whole gray tone, the dark blondes turn into an orangish brown. Moreover, the pastel silver makes the brown hair shades look darker with no hint of gray.

So, my advice would be not to try oVertone Pastel Silver if you don’t have light hair. Otherwise, it is just a waste of money.

oVertone Copper Before And After

Copper hair color generally resembles a shade less vivid than red, backed by a golden undertone. As per my experience, unlike other oVertone colors, the copper conditioner suits the best with brown shades.

oVertone Copper Conditioner kit includes vibrant red and extreme orange colors. The ideal way to DIY your copper paste is to mix 1 part of extreme orange and 2 portions of vibrant red.

On light blonde hair, the orange hue is more prominent. But the orange tinge balances with the red when you apply the mixture on dark blonde strands. As you move to the brown hair, the natural copper tone pops out with this oVertone conditioner kit.

oVertone Golden Brown Before And After

The oVertone Golden Brown has little, or some might say zero change on brown hair. You may get a tint of golden on some strands if you are lucky. Besides that, do not expect dramatic transformation with this oVertone Golden Brown on your dark hair.

However, this color works fine with blonde hair tones. For example, dark to medium blondes actually pick up the brown hue with golden borders. Impressive indeed.

However, some customers with light blondes and bleached hair complained about this color turning into a mess. Their hair has turned mostly golden after using the Golden Brown color.

oVertone Espresso Brown Before And After

I must admit that oVertone Espresso Brown is definitely something else. Regardless of your hair color, this pigmented conditioner will give your strands the happy shade you want.

If you do not know, Espresso Brown is a dark shade of brown with tints of black. oVertone has cracked the formula and does wonders on your hair with this product.

Of course, the blondes above level 7 pick up the espresso brown more effortlessly. The hair flaunts the perfect balance between dark brown and black.

On the contrary, espresso brown looks close to the darkest brown or black on brown hair.

Before And After oVertone Blue

You will find 4 types of blue coloring conditioner available on oVertone,

  1. Pastel blue
  2. Vibrant blue
  3. Extreme blue
  4. Blue for brown hair

You get popping and police strobe blue with the pastel coloring conditioner on the light blonde hair. The color gets less intense and muted once you apply it to medium or dark blondes. Unfortunately, the brown hair can not pick up the pastel blue pigments.

With the vibrant blue, your light blonde hair will completely transform into a royal blue hue. In fact, the vibrant blue works perfectly with medium and dark blondes too. Luckily, the brown strands can pick up the blue tinge with this oVertone conditioner.

Do not go for the extreme blue on your blonde hair unless you are ready for intense blue strands. You get the exact shade of the dark royal blue tint that a permanent dye offers. Upon applying on the dark hair, the strands will look more black with a glimpse of royal blue.

Among the 4 types of blues, I guess the blue for brown hair is a total hit. Of course, you still need bleach to enjoy the full blue shades on brown hair. But this oVertone color allows you to enjoy a hint of blue to a level and makes the dark hair darker.

Some users claim their brown hair looks more purple and royal blue than sober blue. This is the case if your hair has a red undertone or red residue from the previous dyeing.

You can enjoy the blue for brown hair on blondes. The product works absolutely fine on blonde hair too, leaving a flawless vibrant blue shade.

oVertone Orange For Brown Hair Before And After

Customer feedback on oVertone Orange for brown hair is quite satisfactory. The brown strands pick up a light orange tone quite flawlessly.

On some brown hair, the color will look like a shade of light brown. But that totally depends on your hair level.

Blondes can also use this orange conditioner. Their hair will get a vibrant and warmer orange shade as they have a light hair tone.

oVertone Purple For Brown Hair Before And After

The oVertone Purple for brown hair includes more pigments than usual. Hence, you get the perfect tint of purple even on your dark hair. The lighter the brown, the more vibrant the purple gets on the strands.

oVertone Chocolate Brown Before And After

The oVertone Chocolate Brown imparts a mix of red and golden hues on the blonde hair. Any shade of blonde smoothly picks up the pigments. However, depending on your hair tone, the red tint sometimes looks more prominent.

Coming to its application on brown hair, I do not think you will get much benefit out of this color. Yes, your hair may look warmer and softer than before. But there will be no significant change in your hair shades.

oVertone Pink For Brown Hair Before And After

The latest oVertone Pink for brown hair works surprisingly well. Of course, you will not get a popping and extreme pink hue all over your hair. But expect vibrant pink shades on the light brown strands.

oVertone Red For Brown Hair Before And After

Considering how hard it is to color brown hair, oVertone Red does a pretty good job. Your brown strands get a perfect reddish tint with this formula. Besides, the highlights pick up more pigments and look more vibrant.

oVertone On Various Hair Colors

A semi-permanent dye does not offer you the shade you are looking for. Different parameters decide how your hair will pick up the pigment. For example, your strand condition and color.

Let’s talk about the second factor.

oVertone Before And After Brown Hair: Most oVertone colors fail to brighten up brown or dark hair. You only get a hint of the shade you are going for. If you want a total hair transformation, bleaching is your only option.

Before And After oVertone On Natural Gray Hair: There is a misconception that oVertone can stain gray hair. Well, no!

The pigments will definitely sit on the gray strands, making the color pop out. But it will not reverse the gray hair to black hair.

Some oVertone color compliments the gray hair perfectly. For example, I love what oVertone Rose Gold does on the gray strands. Again, if you want to highlight and freshen up your grays, go for the pastel silver overtone for an awesome result.

oVertone Before And After Blonde Hair: I guess all oVertone colors suit blonde hair the most. But yes, sometimes the colors look more extreme on the light blondes. You can adjust the intensity of the oVertone by saturating it with other colors.

Conclusion

oVertone has definitely changed the hair color game. Now you can try out any shade without bleaching or harming your hair. Also, the majority of the customers are happy with their oVertone before and after experiences.
